This year’s tournament honors a remarkable young man, Phillip Asaro, from our community. After enduring years of kidney disease, he courageously underwent a kidney transplant this past December. As a devoted husband and father of three small children, he has faced the challenges of being out of work while making weekly trips to New York City for essential medical care. Phillip is a proud member of the Waalkill family, and his father-in-law has dedicated fifty years to the Waalkill Engine Co. #6. Phillip is not only a fighter for his own health but also the son of a fallen NYFD firefighter who lost his life on September 11, 2001, at the World Trade Center. He is one of six siblings, four of whom serve with honor in the New York Fire Department. His sister, who selflessly donated her kidney to him, serves at the same firehouse where their father once proudly worked. This family has exemplified true sacrifice and service to our communities, our state, and our country. The Waalkill community is excited to support this deserving individual.
